John Robert Dew

John Robert Dew is an author, teacher, and quality advisor, currently teaching graduate courses at The University of Alabama in the United States. Dew worked as a quality and training staff member and manager for Lockheed Martin Corporation for 24 years prior to joining The University of Alabama as the Director for Continuous Quality Improvement and Strategic Planning in 1997. In 2007, Dr. Dew moved to Troy University, also in Alabama, where he served as Senior Vice Chancellor, retiring in 2018.

Dr. Dew is an Academician in the International Academy for Quality and a Fellow in the American Society for Quality. He served as Chair of ASQ’s Energy and Environmental Division, Chair of ASQ’s Education Division, and Chair of ASQ’s Education and Training Board. He was a founder and Chair of the National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education and served a three-year term as a Judge in the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program.

Dew earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Tennessee. He has provided consulting services to numerous organizations including the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Battelle, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Education. He has participated in multiple accreditation reviews of universities through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has presented on quality topics at universities in China and Peru.

Dr. Dew is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles. His major books are Continuous Quality Improvement in Higher Education, Quality-Centered Strategic Planning, Diagnosing and Preventing Adverse and Sentinel Events, Managing in a Team Environment, and Empowerment and Democracy in the Workplace.
